A RESOLUTION COMMENDING LUTHER MILLSAPS ON BEING HONORED AS A MISSISSIPPI AGELESS HERO IN THE GOOD COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT CATEGORY.

WHEREAS, Luther Millsaps, a resident of Tupelo, Mississippi, was honored on January 26, 1999, as Mississippi's Ageless Hero in the Community Involvement category; and

WHEREAS, Mississippi Ageless Heroes, a program established in 1997 by the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association, are people whose accomplishments at age 65 and beyond are inspirational for others; and

WHEREAS, Luther Millsaps began his work with Habitat for Humanity after a career with South Central Bell; and

WHEREAS, Luther Millsaps organized 70 of the 115 Habitat for Humanity affiliates active in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama; and

WHEREAS, Luther Millsaps created Habitat's Collegiate Challenge, which last year involved 7,000 college students working on Habitat houses during school break; and

WHEREAS, Luther Millsaps continues his work now as Resource Developer for Habitat's Southern Region, working to improve what he largely put together; and

WHEREAS, he is one of the reasons Habitat for Humanity enjoys its great reputation; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend superior service and dedication to the State of Mississippi and its people:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MISSISSIPPI SENATE, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Luther Millsaps on being honored as a Mississippi Ageless Hero in the Community Involvement category on January 26, 1999, and express our heartiest wishes for many years of good health, happiness, peace and joy.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Luther Millsaps and the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
